Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 ½ cups (320 g)
- Granulated sugar: 2 cups (400 g)
- Unsalted butter: 1 cup (226 g), softened
- Large eggs: 4
- Baking powder: 1 tablespoon (15 g)
- Milk: 1 cup (240 ml), at room temperature
- Vanilla extract: 2 teaspoons (10 ml)
- Blue food coloring: 1-2 tablespoons
- Frosting: 4 cups (about 1 batch of your favorite buttercream)
- Colorful sprinkles: for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
- Stir in the blue food coloring until the desired shade is achieved.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost the first layer with frosting, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate with colorful sprinkles and themed decorations as desired.
