Description

Candy Apple Cookies with Shadow Milk are a delightful treat that combines the classic flavors of candy apples with a fun twist, featuring a vibrant red color and a unique shadow milk drizzle made with activated charcoal.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 cups (240 g)
  • Brown sugar: 1 cup (200 g), packed
  • Unsalted butter: 1/2 cup (113 g), softened
  • Candy apple flavoring: 1 tablespoon
  • Red food coloring: 1-2 teaspoons
  • Milk: 1/4 cup (60 ml)
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Activated charcoal: 1 teaspoon (for shadow milk)
  • Powdered sugar: 1 cup (120 g) (for shadow milk)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the candy apple flavoring and red food coloring, mixing until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and a pinch of salt, then gradually add to the butter mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until the dough comes together.
  6. Drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart, and flatten slightly.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers remain soft.
  8. While cooling, prepare the shadow milk by mixing powdered sugar, activated charcoal, and enough milk to achieve a drizzling consistency.
  9. Once cookies are cooled, drizzle the shadow milk over the top.
  10. Allow the drizzle to set before serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
  • Don’t overmix the dough to avoid tough cookies.
  • Chill the dough if it feels too sticky.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
