Description

Chicken Shawarma is a Middle Eastern dish made with tender, marinated chicken infused with spices, served in warm pita bread with fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 🍗 Chicken thighs: 1 lb (about 450 g), boneless and skinless
  • 🧄 Garlic: 4 cloves, minced
  • 🥛 Yogurt: 1/2 cup (plain, unsweetened)
  • 🍋 Lemon juice: 2 tablespoons (freshly squeezed)
  • 🌿 Cumin: 1 teaspoon
  • 🌶️ Paprika: 1 teaspoon
  • 🌼 Turmeric: 1/2 teaspoon
  • 🛢️ Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
  • 🥙 Pita bread: 4 pieces
  • 🥬 Fresh vegetables: such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken by combining garlic, yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, paprika, turmeric, olive oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add chicken thighs and coat well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the marinated chicken on it. Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking for an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  3. While the chicken cooks, prepare fresh vegetables by washing and chopping them. Warm the pita bread in the oven or skillet.
  4. Assemble the shawarma by placing sliced chicken in the center of the warm pita, adding fresh vegetables, and drizzling with tahini or garlic sauce. Roll up the pita and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken is cooked properly.
  • Warm pita bread enhances the overall experience.
  • Feel free to customize with additional sauces or toppings.
