Description
Churros poppers are bite-sized treats that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, coated in a sweet cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Ingredients
- Granulated Sugar: ½ cup for coating and 2 ½ tablespoons for the dough.
- Ground Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon.
- Water: 1 cup.
- Salt: ½ teaspoon.
- Vegetable Oil: 2 tablespoons for the dough and enough for frying.
- All-Purpose Flour: 1 cup.
- Optional Ingredients: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, chocolate chips, a pinch of nutmeg, lemon or orange zest.
Instructions
- Prepare the cinnamon-sugar mixture by combining ½ cup of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Make the dough by combining 1 cup of water, 2 ½ tablespoons of sugar, ½ teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat until boiling.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until a ball forms.
- Allow the dough to cool for about 10 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Shape the dough into small balls and drop them into the hot oil, frying in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain the poppers on paper towels.
- Coat the warm poppers in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Serve warm with dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel.
