Description

A rich, moist, and utterly delicious chocolate cake perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 1 ¾ cups (220 g)
  • Cocoa powder: ¾ cup (65 g)
  • Granulated sugar: 2 cups (400 g)
  • Large eggs: 4 eggs
  • Unsalted butter: 1 cup (226 g), melted
  • Whole milk: 1 cup (240 ml)
  • Baking powder: 1 ½ teaspoons
  • Vanilla extract: 2 teaspoons
  • Chocolate chips: 1 cup (175 g), semi-sweet

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, large eggs, whole milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Prepare ganache (optional) by heating heavy cream and mixing it with chopped chocolate until smooth.
  9. Assemble the cake by layering the cakes and adding ganache in between and on top.
  10. Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings or additional chocolate chips.
  11. Slice and serve at room temperature, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
