A rich, moist, and utterly delicious chocolate cake perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 1 ¾ cups (220 g)
- Cocoa powder: ¾ cup (65 g)
- Granulated sugar: 2 cups (400 g)
- Large eggs: 4 eggs
- Unsalted butter: 1 cup (226 g), melted
- Whole milk: 1 cup (240 ml)
- Baking powder: 1 ½ teaspoons
- Vanilla extract: 2 teaspoons
- Chocolate chips: 1 cup (175 g), semi-sweet
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, large eggs, whole milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare ganache (optional) by heating heavy cream and mixing it with chopped chocolate until smooth.
- Assemble the cake by layering the cakes and adding ganache in between and on top.
- Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings or additional chocolate chips.
- Slice and serve at room temperature, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
