Description
A cozy and comforting dish featuring tender chicken, fluffy dumplings, and a rich broth, perfect for chilly days.
Ingredients
- Chicken Breasts: 1 lb (about 450 g), diced
- Chicken Broth: 4 cups (about 950 ml)
- Carrots: 2 medium, diced
- Celery: 2 stalks, diced
- Onion: 1 medium, diced
- Flour: 2 cups (about 240 g)
- Baking Powder: 1 tablespoon
- Milk: 1 cup (about 240 ml)
- Butter: 4 tablespoons (about 60 g)
- Salt and Pepper: to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken by melting 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pot over medium heat, add diced chicken, season with salt and pepper, and cook until golden brown.
- Sauté the vegetables by adding the remaining butter to the pot, then add diced onion, carrots, and celery, and cook until softened.
- Create the broth by pouring in the chicken broth, bringing it to a gentle boil, then reducing heat and returning the cooked chicken to the pot to simmer.
- Make the dumpling dough by combining flour, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl, then gradually stir in milk until a soft dough forms.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the simmering broth, cover the pot, and cook for about 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Combine everything, taste the broth, adjust seasoning if needed, and serve the chicken and dumplings in bowls.
Notes
- Use quality ingredients for the best flavor.
- Don’t overmix the dumpling batter to keep them fluffy.
- Adjust the thickness of the broth if desired.
- Experiment with herbs and spices for added flavor.
- Let the dish rest before serving to meld flavors.
- Make it ahead and store in the fridge or freeze for later.
