- 4 boneless chicken fillet
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
- Season chicken fillet with salt and pepper
- Heat oil and butter in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat
- Add onions and cook until caramelized (about 15 minutes)
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute
- Push onions to the side and add chicken to the skillet
- Sear chicken for 3-4 minutes per side
- Add broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme
- Sprinkle cheese over chicken and onions
- Transfer skillet to oven and bake for 15 minutes
- Broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden
- Serve hot
Notes
- Use oven mitts when handling the hot skillet
- For deeper flavor, caramelize onions slowly over low heat
- Substitute Swiss cheese if Gruyère isn’t available
- Serve with crusty bread to soak up the sauce
