Description
A simple homemade version of KFC-style fried chicken with crispy skin and juicy meat.
Ingredients

- 1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, basil, and cayenne pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs and buttermilk.
- Dip each chicken piece in the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry chicken pieces in batches for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.

Notes
- For extra crispiness, double-coat the chicken by dipping it in the egg mixture and flour mixture twice.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) internally.
- Let the coated chicken rest for 10 minutes before frying for better adhesion.
