Ingredients

  • Ground Beef: 1 lb (450 g)
  • Soy Sauce: 1/4 cup (60 ml)
  • Brown Sugar: 2 tablespoons (30 g)
  • Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger: 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Green Onions: 4, chopped (reserve some for garnish)
  • Sesame Oil: 1 tablespoon (15 ml)
  • Rice: 2 cups (uncooked, preferably jasmine or short-grain)
  • Mixed Vegetables: 2 cups, chopped (such as bell peppers, carrots, and snap peas)
  • Salt and Pepper: to taste
  • Sesame Seeds: for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice with 4 cups (950 ml) of water in a pot, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, sauté for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and fully cooked, draining excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in soy sauce and brown sugar, mixing well. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  5. In a separate pan, heat more sesame oil and sauté the mixed vegetables for 3-5 minutes until tender but vibrant.
  6. Fluff the cooked rice with a fork and divide it among serving bowls. Top with the beef mixture and sautéed vegetables.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving warm.
