Description

Maryland Style Crab Cake is a beloved dish that captures the essence of the Chesapeake Bay, known for its high-quality lump crab meat and distinctive Old Bay seasoning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lump crab meat
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the lump crab meat, seasoned breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, chopped parsley, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into patties, about 3 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick.
  3. Place the formed crab cakes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Heat enough oil in a large skillet to cover the bottom, about 1/4 inch deep, over medium heat until it shimmers.
  5. Carefully add the chilled crab cakes to the hot oil and fry for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Transfer the cooked crab cakes to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve warm with lemon wedges and additional mayonnaise for dipping.

Notes

  • Use fresh or pasteurized lump crab meat for the best flavor.
  • Chilling the crab cakes helps them hold their shape while frying.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste before forming the cakes.
