Description

Scalloped potatoes are a classic dish that brings warmth and comfort to any meal. This creamy, cheesy delight is perfect for family gatherings, holiday feasts, or even a cozy dinner at home.


Ingredients

  • Potatoes: 1.5 kg (about 3-4 large potatoes)
  • Heavy Cream: 500 ml (2 cups)
  • Butter: 60 g (4 tablespoons)
  • Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
  • Cheese: 250 g (about 2 cups) of grated cheddar or Gruyère cheese
  • Salt and Pepper: to taste
  • Thyme: 1 teaspoon of dried thyme (or 2 teaspoons fresh)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick, then rinse and pat dry.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter, sauté the garlic, then add the heavy cream, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer and remove from heat.
  4. Grease a baking dish, layer the potato slices, pour cream mixture, and sprinkle cheese. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let the dish rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Optional add-ins include sautéed onions, different cheeses, vegetables, spices, or cooked meat.
  • Use a mandoline for even potato slices.
