Description

Snickerdoodle cookies are soft, chewy treats with a unique flavor from the combination of cinnamon and sugar, enhanced by the tangy addition of cream of tartar.

Ingredients

  • Salted Butter: 1 cup (2 sticks), softened
  • Granulated Sugar: 1 and 1/3 cups
  • Brown Sugar: 1/3 cup, packed
  • Large Eggs: 2
  • Vanilla Extract: 2 teaspoons
  • All-Purpose Flour: 3 and 1/4 cups, spooned and leveled
  • Baking Soda: 1 teaspoon
  • Kosher Salt: 3/4 teaspoon
  • Cream of Tartar: 1 and 1/2 teaspoons
  • Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture: 1/3 cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of cinnamon for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, kosher salt, and cream of tartar.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the coating.
  7. Form the dough into balls about 1 to 1 and 1/2 inches in size and roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the tops are slightly crinkled.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
  • Don’t overmix the dough to keep cookies soft.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes for better shape retention.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
  • Freeze dough balls for later baking.
