Description

Crispy, golden Southern fried chicken with a perfect blend of spices and a crunchy coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Place chicken pieces in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let soak for at least 1 hour.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Remove chicken from buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then coat in the flour mixture.
  5. Fry chicken in batches for 12-15 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-coat the chicken in flour.
  • Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature for even frying.
  • Let chicken rest 5 minutes before serving for juicier results.
